3 days after being detained in France, plane with 303 passengers to land at Mumbai airport early on Tuesday
A plane carrying more than 300 passengers, mostly Indians, is expected to land at Mumbai airport early on Tuesday, three days after it was detained by French authorities over suspected human trafficking, a source said.
As per the earlier flight plan, the plane was to land in Mumbai at 2.20 pm.
The A340 aircraft, being operated by Romania's Legend Airlines, is expected to land at Mumbai airport, from Vatry near Paris where it was grounded, at around 1 am, the source said on Monday.
The Nicaragua-bound flight that had taken off from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates with 303 passengers was grounded at Vatry airport, 150 kilometres east of Paris, on Thursday over suspected "human trafficking".
On Sunday, four French judges questioned the detained passengers.
The hearings were conducted as part of the investigation opened by the Paris prosecutor's office on the suspicion of human trafficking.

After authorising the plane to leave, the French judges on Sunday chose to cancel the hearings of the passengers due to irregularities in the procedure.
The plane includes 11 unaccompanied minors. Two passengers in custody since Friday had their detention extended on Saturday evening for up to 48 hours, according to French prosecutors.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Wednesday said India’s ties with Canada may have undergone “a tonal shift” following the indictment of an Indian national in the US for plotting an assassination attempt on a Sikh separatist on American soil.
“I think there is a beginning of an understanding that they can't bluster their way through this and there is an openness to collaborating in a way that perhaps they were less open before,” Trudeau told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
He said the US indictment appears to have convinced the Indian government to adopt a more sober tone. “There's an understanding that maybe, maybe just churning out attacks against Canada isn't going to make this problem go away.”
“We don't want to be in a situation of having a fight with India right now over this,” he said.
We want to be working on that trade deal. We want to be advancing the Indo-Pacific strategy. But it is foundational for Canada to stand up for people's rights, for people's safety, and for the rule of law. And that's what we're going to do.”
The ties between India and Canada came under severe strain following Trudeau's allegations on September 18 of a “potential” involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on June 18 in British Columbia.
India had designated Nijjar as a terrorist in 2020. India rejected Trudeau's allegations as “absurd” and “motivated”.
In November, the US federal prosecutors charged that one Nikhil Gupta was working with an Indian government employee in the foiled plot to kill a Sikh separatist, who holds dual citizenship of the US and Canada.
Though the separatist Sikh leader was not named, media reports identified him as Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the leader of the Sikhs for Justice, an organisation banned in India.
India has already constituted a probe committee to investigate allegations.

On March 27, the Jatehdar had served a 24-hour ultimatum on the state government for the release of the detainees.
Akal Takht Jathedar’s personal assistant Jaspal Singh said a government representative called them to inform about the release of the detainees. He claimed that the official concerned also assured that the remaining 12 taken into preventive custody under Section 107/151 of the CrPC would be released soon.
The phone call reportedly took place hours before a Twitter post of Akal Takht Jathedar asking the Sikh Sangat to participate in the Panthic congregation was withheld in India.

Waris Punjab De head not in police custody, state tells High Court
Amritpal has not been arrested or detained so far, despite the best efforts on the part of the police, the state of Punjab today told the Punjab and Haryana High Court during the resumed hearing of a habeas corpus petition seeking his “release” from alleged illegal detention.
In his affidavit placed before Justice NS Shekhawat’s Bench, the state, through Inspector-General of Police Narinder Bhargav, submitted that the petitioner had levelled vague, false, misleading and frivolous allegations in the petition without attaching any proof to support the same.
“Amritpal Singh is absconding from law. Raids have been conducted to apprehend and detain him. Multiple teams, headed by senior police officers, including the Senior Superintendent of Police, Amritsar Rural, SPs, DSPs and SHOs, have raided various suspected hideouts of Amritpal Singh. The case dairies in this regard have also been recorded. However, despite the best efforts on the part of the police, he could not be arrested/detained so far,” the IGP submitted.
The affidavit added that Amritpal Singh was absconding and concealing himself so that the detention orders against him issued as per the orders of the Amritsar District Magistrate under the National Security Act could not be executed. Also, a request for “opening” a lookout circular for Amritpal was sent on March 19 by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Amritsar Rural, to the Deputy Director, Bureau of Immigration, Ministry of Home Affairs. This was to prevent the accused from leaving the country. The LOC has duly been opened by the Bureau of Immigration, Ministry of Home Affairs.
